Are Corsair RM series psu's Quiet?

Hello! as the topic says, I would like to know how quiet a RM series psu at 850 watts on a +,- 300 watt system is. Will the fan spin at all? Thanks!

Uh.... yes they are very quiet, even at load. But no I would not recommend an RM850 for a low end 300W system. That's absurdly overkill.

Would the fan spin up at all? It might at full load, but I doubt it.

If you have a lot of money to throw at a silent overkill power supply, you could consider either the HX750i or a fanless PSU around the 500W mark.

Also fanless PSUs, CPU coolers, etc are not intended to be used in cases with no airflow. That also applies to semi-fanless PSUs. You don't want your PSU to be heating up a bit just because you didn't want the fan to spin at all. The RM Series is quiet enough that you should probably just get the RM450 and save some money.

well ok, firstly which GPU's in SLI? Second, I can't see you needing 850W for two 165W GPUs. (The fan on the RM850 will very likely spin up with 2 GPUs at full load btw. But still, it's quiet, so the GPUs will likely drown out any noise the PSU makes).

Joe, you know that I run Dual-760s. And the fan does not even move.

Yes they are quiet (I have 650W)

I run two overclocked 760s and a 4.5GHz 3570K on a RM650. And the fan never spins up.

Yes they're quiet and if you have the hybrid fan mode on it will almost never turn the fan on.
