Posted September 30, 2014 Uh.... yes they are very quiet, even at load. But no I would not recommend an RM850 for a low end 300W system. That's absurdly overkill. Would the fan spin up at all? It might at full load, but I doubt it. If you have a lot of money to throw at a silent overkill power supply, you could consider either the HX750i or a fanless PSU around the 500W mark. Also fanless PSUs, CPU coolers, etc are not intended to be used in cases with no airflow. That also applies to semi-fanless PSUs. You don't want your PSU to be heating up a bit just because you didn't want the fan to spin at all. The RM Series is quiet enough that you should probably just get the RM450 and save some money. Second, I can't see you needing 850W for two 165W GPUs. (The fan on the RM850 will very likely spin up with 2 GPUs at full load btw.
