Need help upgrading GPU for a LGA775 system

Stefko

Hello LTT forum!
The time has come that I have to finally upgrade my GPU for it has been BSoD-ing me every time I turn my PC on.
Here are my specs:

  • Intel Q8300 @2.5GHz
  • Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L
  • 2x2GB Adata DDR2 800MHz
  • Hipro 430W PSU
  • Force3D HD5750 1GB

Now, I'm thinking of getting the XFX 260X (nope, not using the 'R-something' naming scheme) 2GB but I don't know how much of a bottleneck my CPU would be. What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

You won't be bottlenecked here. Don't get ab XFX card or a 260X, try to get a Sapphire Vapor-X 270.

Really ? A R9 270 is fine even for that CPU ?

Incorrect, there will be a bottleneck on the 260x and the 270

Hmm, guess I overestimated the power of the C2Q.

Something like a R7 260 is fine imo, or even just a R7 250.

Hmm, guess I overestimated the power of the C2Q.

It isn't inherently weak it's just a bit old, higher clocked ones fare better and while there will be a bottleneck for the 270 it's not going to be a massive 20% drop in performance. I would suggest that you get the 270 just know that until you get a more modern CPU you will be losing out on some performance depending on the game.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
What are your opinions of the 750Ti instead?

I had a Q8400 at 3.2 Ghz and a 7790 (same as 260x) was bottle necking pretty hard. Anything above a 260x is a waste unless you plan on building a new system.

750 Ti is a really good budget card, but go for the EVGA ACX one if you want that, it's a big improvement over the stock and some other brands.
