Dry Ice?

Would dry ice in front of a computer intake vent work or would it cause condensation?

Could cause condensation if the air has moisture in it and is colder than outside the case I would imagine.

It's dry ice... I'm no expert but for one that is a terrible idea and two It shouldn't cause condensation as long as the room temperature isn't too far off compared to the ice temperature. In other words don't do it.

I dont know much about dry ice but I think it may cause condensation but it depends on your case if the condensation will get inside. B)

Not because it's going to be "wet ice", it would shift directly to a gaseous state of carbon dioxide, but it carries (a very small) amount of water vapor from the air as well, that will end up accumulating slowly on PC parts.

Just thinking, not wanting to do it just thinking. Also thought about ducting a AC vent from the floor to the case (Prob not a good idea). No, what I'll do someday when I get money is get a external rad and stick it on the wall.

I actually wouldn't imagine it would cause a problem. I don't think case fans have enough "air-moving" power to move enough chilled air inside the case to lower the temp enough to cause condensation. Although I probably wouldn't be comfortable doing it anyway.

and dry ice is fucking dangerous man you can't just have some lying near you in front of the PC

It's just cold CO2. Just have plenty of ventilation and don't touch it with your bare hands and you'll be fine. It's not like sodium in water...

I made bombs with it once. It was awesome.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I've picked up dry ice bare handed, didn't see what the big deal was, granted I did not hold it very long, wasn't about to tempt fate.

 

It felt cold to me, but no colder than regular ice.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. A block of dry ice has a surface temperature of
-109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C). Dry ice also has the very nice feature
of sublimation -- as it breaks down, it turns directly into carbon dioxide gas rather than
a liquid.

It's not dangerous by itself, but as someone who's working with cryogenics, I wouldn't recommend handling dry ice if you aren't sure what you're doing. Not worth it :P

Forgot the "condensation" part.. You could make an intake where air is sucked in through dry ice. It will then freeze out all the moisture out of the air. This would require larger quantities of dry ice and intake fan that can handle operation in -50C to -80C. There would be other problems like icing from the air already present in the case.. But then you could start by pumping clean nitrogen first to displace the air inside the system.

What I remember from handling dry ice almost barehanded (with really thin gloves) and with good gloves, it doesn't really make air that much colder. It has more effect on water and matter that has high concentration of water like lake soil sediments (for which we used it).
