GTX 980 life

Go to solution Solved by Wano97,

Aprettycoolwalrus pay the 150 extra is what I will do also they said that 780 will not be made any more so that makes them very rare in the future so u can sell it as some rare pc component

Who told you that? Sounds like utter bullshit to me

Longer than you'd want it for.

Are you talking about "lasting" in the sense of how long will the chip physically function or are you asking how long will it be until games are too demanding for it?

Physically speaking, the chip should long outlive the amount of time that you would want to keep it.. Unless the card itself happens to be a dud, you'll probably be buying a newer and more powerful GPU long before you'd "need" to replace the older one.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

So what should us 780 owners do?

Whatever you feel like, I personally need a new GPU anyways because mine is unstable at stock. And I think that the new coolers are so damn sexy, along with the new features that maxwell brings us. Besides, the 970 is of incredibly good value. I'm selling my 780 atm and planning to SLI 2 970s. Also because I really want a color scheme

A Graphics card is not like brakes on a car that wear out over time and stop working after enough use.

GPUs typically die if the fans stop working because they run hot. But GPU fans are built like tanks. No worries. ;)

who cares...

no one will ever be able to give a specific answer to the lifespan of a graphic card, its not an SSD with a predictable amount of writes.  graphic cards die for 99 different reasons. the chip itself will probably last longer than anything else attached to the pcb, including fans, caps, vrms, mem controllers etc..
