Hi, I've been trying to convince my friend to let me build him a computer to replace his xbone and I'm looking for some help choosing the parts.

It's just going to be used for gaming and the price has to be a low as possible, hopefully less than £400, not including the case which I already have.

this is what I'm thinking so far but any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor  (£43.14)

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£32.99)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£57.99)

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£37.50)

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card  (£119.00)

Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£37.59)

Total: £328.21

If he doesn't want a PC then why are you trying to build him one?

why not wait until the current gen consoles are more outdated? a 270X won't be a huge step up from an Xbone TBH

I wouldn't get a PC if I already had a fairly capable gaming console which is less than a year old.

At that price range, I'd suggest an AMD CPU instead of Intel, so I bump up the price a bit but it should perform better :P

Also while my friend have this CPU and he run on stock cooler fine, I'd suggest some other after market cooler if you want it to be alittle bit more quiet

(Forgot to put in a PSU, just get any 500W PSU there. 450W is ok, but it's too close for comfort :P

at least 500W for 280.

Psh, no. It doesn't draw that much.

it says on their site,

minimum required power supply 750w.

500w is an understatement.

psh you dont know what you're talking about.

Look! Another person that looks at recommended ratings! Nvidia states you need 500W for a 980 and you can run that with a 4790k on a 350W power supply because it doesn't draw 500w.  <_< It's a thing done to cover their asses so they don't get sued by an idiot.

No, not really... the R9 280 certainly dont draw that much power. Even a GTX 780/R9 290x dont. 500W is already enough even for some OC on CPU and GPU. Usually I'd get a 600W for some headroom though, but 500W is fine too

Awesome, thanks for the fast responses people!

I think after reading your suggestions, I'll probably go with the i3 instead of the pentium or an amd just because it's better.

I'm still undecided on the graphics card right now, I'll wait and see if I can get a deal on  either a 760 or 280  and  both would give pretty good benefits over a console performance wise.

Thanks again for the help everybody, it is much appreciated
