The 5870 is still much much more powerful amd runs games ultra on a old (idk)x1024 resolution monitor...

problem is that it's very likely that the AMD card has been used for mining...nvidia it's less a common thing...but if the 5870 card has been mining for years now it's almost dead for sure.

you should save some more to get a R9 270 honestly...it would be better all around...

if you are okay with a used card maybe look at a HD7850 or HD7870
