Does a DisplayPort Cable do more than 60hz?

Hello i am buying a new monitor the BenQ XL270Z 27inch

The monitor is 1080p 1ms response time 144hz

 

So i keep reading that display port can only push at 60hz on a 1080p Display and i would like the full 144hz so what cable do i buy????

where are you reading that

 

as long as you have a capable graphics card display port will work

Display port version????

I believe any DP can drive 1080p at 144 Hz...

DisplayPort can push 60Hz on 4k, so there is enough bandwidth for 144Hz at 1080p.

DP can do more than 60Hz, it can do even more then 144Hz.

I run my 144 Hz BenQ via DVI at 144, so displayport should do that as well

Okay thank you guys that was quick xD I did not want to screw up and buy the wrong cable i though i better play it safe xD And yes i have an R9 290X overclocked. Also is that the best monitor for gaming for the price at 27 inches?

I think i saw people syaing it does 60hz at 4k so i thought i just did 60hz even with 1920x1080

The monitor comes with a dual link DVI cable capable of pushing 144Hz at 1080p. So there really is no need to buy a Display Port cable...unless there was something specific you were trying to accomplish.

 

I have the same monitor and I have been very happy with it. Definitely does color correction better than your average TN panel and the 144Hz refresh and 1ms gtg is very nice. I find the image quality and color depth superior to most other 1080p 144Hz displays when comparing.

 

Just make sure the monitor you pick up has version 2 of the firmware. The likelihood of getting one with version 1 is low but best to check and see if the store you are buying it from can confirm. Version 1 had some issues with contrast.

I think it does in America but i live the uk because when i asked the sellers on amazon uk and some people selling it on ebay they say it comes with a single link DVI cable when i ask them odd i know. So i better be safe than sorry.

Displayport is the industry standard for display interfaces. If they couldn't drive 1080p monitors at 144Hz, 4K monitors would be almost out of the question. DP is freaking awesome these days.

It has to do with bandwidth. Lower the resolution or/and lower the amount of colors, the more you can push the refresh rate. The lower the refresh rate, the lower the resolution, the more you can send more color amount. etc. It's a balance, is basically what I am trying to explain.

I am sure the current DisplayPort can push 8K, if you set your colors to monochrome (black and white, no shades gray), and maybe the refresh rate be at 60Hz. But then Windows will complain that it doesn't work with 2 colors. Assuming it works, you can push 8K, 16.7 million colors, but at 10Hz. But these aren't realistic setups for anyone.

So we assume 8 or 10-bit colors per channel (16.7 million and 1.07 billion colors, respectively), so we simply say it can do 4K at 60Hz. Or 1080p at 144Hz. Or daisy chain (an ability of DisplayPort) 4x 1080p monitor at 60Hz (4x 1080p is 4K, notice the match)
