1440p IPS monitor

Killswitch49

My search for a 1440p IPS monitor has not turned up many successful results. Yes I know you can buy the Korean monitors but I want one from a brand I trust and a retailer with solid customer support (btw I live in Canada so no microcentre or any of that jazz). Anyway most important for me is the quality of the panel. I want it to have minimal colour bleed and very good colour depth (more important than 120hz) as I will be mostly watching movies on it. Thx

240Hz PWM flickering backlight, 800:1 contrast ratio, 1 frame input lag... come on, there's better options today for that price.

FYI, it's been at $530 for the past four months. Plus, it causes headaches if you're sensitive to led pwm dimming. People keep recommending this monitor on here like it's some sort of holy grail... There's much better options out there.

Was there a revision of the monitor that i've missed. Ik PLS is in the IPS family.

Edit: I could be very wrong though. I have been known to be quite wrong sometimes.

Not that I'm aware of.

While strictly not an IPS panel variant, we have included PLS in this section since it is IPS-like in character and performance. PLS was introduced by Samsung at the end of 2010 and designed to compete with LG.Display's long-established and very popular IPS technology. They claimed they had reduced production costs compared with IPS by about 15% and so were making a play at the market of IPS panels. At the time it was also being dubbed "S-PLS" (Super-PLS) but that name seemed to be dropped quite quickly in favour of just "PLS". It wasn't until mid 2011 that the first PLS screens started to appear, fittingly they were manufactured by Samsung themselves. The Samsung S27A850D was the first of its kind and its overall performance certainly reminded users of IPS panels.

Response times are quite comparable to IPS matrices, with 5ms G2G being the current lowest spec on paper. There is currently no support for refresh rates about 60Hz, although there are some Korean manufactured screens which can be over-clocked to 100Hz refresh rates. This is not natively or officially supported though. Contrast ratios are typically around 700 - 900:1 in practice, although can reach up to 1000:1 in some cases as per their spec. Viewing angles are very comparable to IPS as well with wide fields of view and freedom from the off-centre contrast shifts you see from VA panels. From a wide angle dark content has a pale / white glow to it like modern IPS panels, again leading to a fair amount of so-called "PLS-glow" which can be distracting to some users.

PLS is close enough to IPS that it's still worth recommending for someone who wants an IPS monitor? It's just Samsung's version of IPS.

The contrast ratio is 80M:1, not 800:1 - big difference.

What are the better options for the money? Just curious. I only recommended the PB278Q because I've heard good things about it from pretty much everyone.

I found these ones on NCIX, would you recommend these over the PB278Q?

Static contrast ratio is 1000:1, dynamic contrast ratio 80m:1.

The bl2710pt doesn't use pwm dimming and is superior to the asus pb278q. Here's an excellent review by NCX.

after further inspection it seems that the monitor has noticeable problems with such as colour bleed and some colours not appearing correctly (darks, reds and greens). Again most important to me is the panel quality
