So Linus, do you think the curved version is worth the $300 premium over the flat version? Does it really add that much to it?

I just had a question that I couldn't understand from your review. With the flat model you feel inclined to move your head to the left and right to see a document positioned on each side. it makes you wish you can fold the monitor just a bit so you don't need to move your head so much. So does the curve screen help with looking at the edges? Does it solve this problem?

I am considering getting this monitor, but I was wondering, how is the ultra wide supported by games, or do they need to be?

e.g. how would something like league of legends work with the aspect ratio on this thing?

How badly will this monitor if at all suffer from stretching on the sides, my 3 Dell u2414h in eyefinity suffered quite badly. but a 21:9 and as a bonus a curved 21:9 3440 x 1440 seems to be much better at immersing an individual into the game without it being ruined. What news is there on the earliest release of a freesync monitor ?, id love to get a rog swift however the gsync would go to waste on my 2 sapphire vapor-x 290's.

pc case gear just released this product.

being priced at $1799 I think its priced out of reach for general buyer's

I was expecting this to be around the 1400 mark.

a 550 dollar mark up doesnt justify the features of being just curved

the Australian version does come with a vesa mount but still the initial stand is poor

Its all about those volumetric clouds

Great monitor, beautiful design. Clean.

-

Sorry if this isn't the right place, but I would like to make a request for the Linus Media Group: could you make a video explaining the pros and cons of a mATX Setup? (sorry if this is not the correct name of it)

I would be much appreciated as I don't find anything o the Web that gives me a solid conclusion.

Thanks!

Definitely wrong place.

Ive been looking into this monitor as a replacement for 3 Dell u2414h monitors since i first saw what little news was released on it.

Just to Clarify there are 3 different versions of this monitor,

34UC97-S

34UC87-B black

34UC87-S gold

the only difference between the 97 and the 87 is that the 87 has a complete black back and stand, the stand can go up and down and it has a vesa mount compatability, which is puts it ahead of the 97 however it is referred to as the business version and seems to be only available in Austria and Germany, there doesnt seem to be any difference between the 87-s and the 87-b, at least not at the moment.

Here are several links that will interested those that want further information on the new LG curved monitors, theres very little info out atm and linus video review seems to be the only indepth review out atm apart from the 3 reviews from the German amazon page for the 97, linked below.

US retailer with the 97 available for purchase at only $1299, the user from hard forum post purchased it from here, just to give you an idea $1300 is only £813, so it is the cheapest currently.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/

I recently ask them if they would review the 97 or 87 and the responded with "Yes, we are hoping to review one of them at some point when samples become available to us" a review from tftcentral will ultimately be what most people are looking for, more questions than answer at the moment.

  • 2 months later...

Cross-posting from other LG super wide monitor threads, but here's the updated price chart in Korea. Slowly but surely the $$ are coming down. Remember that Korean Won has weakened by quite a bit vs. US $, so the value is better than ever.

As of today, you can grab the following in Korea for (not including 10% VAT):

  • 34UM95: 890,000 won or $850 or so
  • 34UC97: 1,295,670 won or $1173 or so
  • AOC3477: 890,000 won or $850 or so

So compare this to your own "bargain" when buying from a US or an overseas seller.

I already got it and unfortunately not all the games support this resolution. I have no clue how about league of legends but I had some problem with setting it up for starcraft 2. Apparently according to blizzard's official statement they will never support anything over 16:9 because it is considered as an advantage over other player with, lets say, more standard monitors and they want to keep all the online tournaments as much competitive as possible. So there is no support for ultra wide and multi monitors systems. Took me a while but finally I've found a proper tool to make it possible. Just downland flawless widescreen app and set it up for your monitor(s). They're constantly updated the database of supported games. The tricky part is that you might be banned in your game for doing so as some developers same as blizzard consider this as a kind of cheat. But the good new is that this fix doesn't modify game code, it simply modifies the resolution value in memory. You may give it a shot. Official website http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/

Ye, ive tried it, works awesome. Playing SC2 @2560x1080 60p. UI isnt stretched, just cut in parts and segmented, with gaps, under which you see more of the gameworld.

Not playing on ladder, cuz i dont feel like paying money for a game i have no chances of playing competitively anyway. But i bet noone would notice if you played with that fix on ladder either.

I want to add that GTA 3 can also be made to work @ 21:9 with flawlesswidescreen. Looks so good... im rediscovering my favourite games!

I know right?

You just want to go through all your steam library and try everything on 21:9... its so wicked... i cant shut up about it

Gawd i cant wait the new freesync monitors this year... i hear in a few months there will be 34" 21:9 freesyncs with 75hz and 144hz on a curve later this year!

While i wont be able to afford the top dog, the 34" 75hz 1080p one wont cost more than the non freesync version now, so thats fucking awesome!

Considering that I just bought my LG 34UC97 I won't be changing it anytime soon ;) Freesync sounds really good and I'm hoping that nvidia will do something about theirs gsync to be more competitive pricewise. I'm rather nvidia guy, but in the end it doesn't matter what parts we prefer, it's all about gameplay experience. Another thing that keeps me back of freesync is the fact that I just bought GTX980... unless someone will came up with a weird hybrid driver allowing nvidia cards to work with freesync certified monitors ;)

That curved 1440p widescreen with a 980 will be some enjoyable shit alright! Nothings gona change that!

Im just still in the market for a big 21:9, so theres something to look froward to for me !
