Help with RAM DDR4 configuration

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

If this is for gaming you completely wasted your money ddr3 ram outperforms ddr4 right now in answer to your question i guess you could have 3

Agree with the first part, not the DDR3>DDR4 point, unless you're referring to just gaming or a slow speed kit. Most of the advantages are within X99 and not necessarily DDR4, although 3000MHz+ is nice :)http://www.overclockers.com/gskill-ripjaws4-ddr4-3000mhz-memory-kit-review I'm loving my kit.

@OP X99 is not a budget build, not sure why you chose it, or how RAM wasn't budgeted at the start (critical component? Skimp on drives or peripherals). Buy a decent quad channel kit you won't replace any time soon, even if it takes you an extra couple weeks to finish the build.

Hello guys

first of all sorry for my english its not my native language. Im from Honduras CA

I just bought a

MSI x99s Gaming 7 Motherboard, a

5820k i7 processor,

phantom 630 windowed edition case

MSI gtx 970 graphic card

But im running low on budget so im planning in buying the crusial 4GB ddr4 memorys

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148856&cm_re=ddr4-_-20-148-856-_-Product

my question is .... can i only buy 3 so I can have 12GB of ram or I need to put them on pairs?

im really confused with that

And also having trouble choosing the right power supply and the appropiate cooling system due to my ambient temp of 30-40 C

thanks

any help will be extremely usefull to me

Why would you buy X99 and not go quad channel...

Yes, apples to apples comparison, but why in the hell would you buy into X99 and then purposefully gimp yourself? The merits of the test speak only to a hypothetical instance. The advantages of the entire platform go along with DDR4 (which I stated). I watched that vid around the same time I was ordering all my components and shrugged it off because it is largely irrelevant, unless you also go buy a V12 and then rip out half the spark plugs to match your V6.

I never said to buy x99 and put ddr3 in it. ddr4 performs worse than ddr3 because it has just been released and companies arent in a hurry to make it better because you have to buy it if you want x99

...but it only performs worse in a few instances and better in others...and again this is comparing a gimped platform to a full out OC'd one. The entire platform performs better as a whole, if only marginally when you're using a low speed DDR4 kit, which again would be pointless. If/when 3600+ DDR4 releases things will likely be miles apart.

the difference will mainly be when they lower that horrid latency

Cl15 isnt all that different from the cl12 2400 kits ive been running for years. I havent tried to tighten down anything on my ddr4 kit, but i guess I could try if that's what floats your boat :)
