You will need at least 2 or 3 980s for 4k gaming.

I would stick to 144hz gsync 1440p

I'm still not super impressed with the benchmarks I've seen of 4K. At present, we still look at least one GPU generation away from it being viable.

In the same price range, I doubt it's an IPS display. Which again, IPS is only really super-important if either you don't sit directly in front of your monitor, or if you're using it for professional work. I'll take the reduced motion blur of 144hz, and the lower input lag/reduced screen tearing that G-sync offers any day of the week. Especially if you're going to be using it for

No doubt the 4k will look better but I believe the 1440p will give a much better gaming experience. 4k still isn't ready for mass market yet. ROG Swift will have way less latency, will be easier to run (keep those fps up), it has gsnyc so you won't have screen tearing issues and you won't have the scaling issues that 4k has with windows.

It's only 200 more and the windows scaling will be fix with the new windows 

 

$200 is a lot of money, particularly when you consider those monitors, like ROG motherboards, basically come with features one could enable and essentially cheat online. The scaling issue is more of a problem with programs and software, not Windows

I've never tried it either to be honest. As I understand it, FPS is the game type which gets the biggest benefit. More pixels, more problems right now, we're still a long way from that being viable. Neither is exactly viable multi-monitor though. For productivity sure, but you could make the argument of using cheaper monitors. You can't drive surround 1440p at a framerate which justifies 144hz, and 4k surround... ha, maybe in 10 years

Id take the swift unless you are working with 4k files; the 980 will struggle hitting 50-60fps on 4k.
