You can replace it, but it is a proprietary form factor. OWC sell replacement drives.

You can just use thunderbolt and boot from that if you have an iMac. Thunderbolt should provide more than enough bandwidth.

You can, you can also change the CPU, GPU, and RAM. Just more effort. BTW, the iMac has the Apple PCIe SSD connector, and a standard SATA one for HDD.

You can get the Apple SSD off EBAY from Chinese manufacturers unto 2TB or from OWC.
