Worst selling experience ever !

Go to solution Solved by Geekazoid,

Yesterday I sold a guy my old perfectly working 2X2GB ddr2 800MHz kit on one of our classified ad pages as a MAN to MAN deal and today he calls me and says that the kit does not work on his computer . When I asked him what was his computer specs he just replied core2duo E4600 and gigabyte mobo !

I asked him if he knows for sure that his motherboard supports 2GB DIMMs then he replied that when he put his old 1 GB DIMM the computer works but when he installed my RAM it would not start.

I dont know what kind of mobo he has or has he destroyed my RAM or what !

he said neither of the DIMMs are working which is bull crap.

Now he is asking for a refund .............what should I do, should I refund him or should he face the problems for him not knowing the compatibility issues.

If you are experienced in such cases please help me !

Hi mate,

I know you might feel obligated to refund him and I would probably be the same. HOWEVER, you don't know if he's being truthful or not. He could be trying to scam (well not scam, can't think of the correct word) you and he could then get the RAM for free. So unless he can provide some genuine proof of your RAM not working in his system then I wouldn't refund him. You gotta be wise about these sorts of things. If he tries to harass you into you giving him a refund then I'd say to him "You bought my RAM without knowing if it was 100% compatible with your system, therefore I'm not obligated to give you a refund."

He can't prove that that the RAM was faulty from the first place. Ignore him. It's his fault for not checking the compatibility.

Judging that you sold those RAM for about $40, he can't even take you to court as the filing fee for a case actually outweighs the price.

If he spams you and such, than you can take the issue to the police station.

The police won't even give a damn since this is a "civil issue", but would intervene if there is hostile activity going on.

doesn't matter if the ram works for him, as long as you sold it working. At least in Austria there is no warranty warranty on 2hand sales unless there are promises broken(example: You said it works, but it didn't).

if it still works on your system you should be fine.

The nice guy in me would probably give him a refund if the RAM still works and he didn't break them, that is if he was nice about it. Then teach him what kind of RAM he needs for his mobo.

the problem is that he wants me to come to a place near him.........for the deal I went to the place close to him I spent about 10% deal money to go there & now he wants me to refund him at the same place which makes me in 20% in loss..............why the hell would i do that if his system does not support the RAM !

If he is to return it then he must come to you, same principle applies when buying and returning items to a store

And if the RAM is faulty don't accept it, test it before you pay him

The problem is that my core2duo E7500 was removed from my old system and given to my uncle who live in another state, and I currently just have the MOBO so I have no means to check the RAM !

Don't give a refund.

There are people who buy stuff and then claim it doesn't work..blah blah blah and then try to give you a dead part back.

It's pretty common for CPU and RAM to be used in this type of scam.

I've sold a lot of computer stuff on Craigslist and markets, when a small chunk of people are told I've recorded serial numbers they back out of the deal.

I started doing that after getting scammed a couple of times.

If you sell ram or CPU, write down all identifying numbers.
