unable to boot from usb

alright, for some magical reason after the 3rd flash, it works. thanks for the help

so i'm trying to install freenas, i have already made a usb install drive using win32imager however when i plug into my nas to install it, it doesn't boot to the nas and goes straight into bios.

 

i'm using a asus z97i-plus

any one have any idea why?

Have you set the correct boot priority?

Maybe something is wrong with the usb install drive

i'm using a brand new usb stick tho.

do i need to disconnect all my drives before installing?

the freenas forums can't load at all so i'm pretty stuck

I'm not familiar with the Asus bios but I do have a few suggestions regardless. Check in your boot menu to see if the flash drive even registers on your board, if it doesn't register or boot properly try another usb port or another drive. Also check to see if USB boot is enabled or not, this is an option on some motherboards but not on others so don't be surprised it the option is not there. It also wouldn't hurt to re-install your boot image to the drive after a quick format.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

i have enabled usb boot, and also the drive shows up in my bios. i'm currently reimaging the usb drive to see it it helps.
