Membrane vs Cherry MX Red's?

I was wondering how different typing on a Cherry MX Red switch will be from typing on a Membrane keyboard, I am planning on picking up my first Mechanical Keyboard (Corsair K70 RGB)

Ohhh man. It will be a huge difference. I personally have the Corsair K70 with red switches. I came from a crappy membrane keyboard. They keystrokes are smooth and require very little force. You may make a little more mistakes, but you will eventually get used to it. I can't stand using the crappy membrane keyboards at my school in programming class. Once you go Mechanical, you'll never go back, regardless of what key switch.

Have reds. Will never buy another switch type until they make something even lighter. I love them more than any other switch. They are nothing like membrane keyboards, the ones that are closer to membrane are the browns.

I can't really describe it, other than it is fucking amazing. You'll use it, try to use the old one and think "How the hell did I manage to type on that thing?"

They are really nice. If you are concerned if reds will be good for you, pick up a Cherry MX Switch Tester.

I have the Corsair K70 MX Browns but I also tested the MX Red version and it is also great! but I still liked the MX Brown better so I'll wait for the K70 RGB MX Browns

Reds, and cherry switches in general have a  different feel. Reds are very sensitive, you don't even have to push the key all the way down for it to register.

It takes abit to get used to, I prefer blues.

My first mechanical keyboard was an MX Red switch, which I ended up not liking because it was too light for me - all personal preference. If you have the chance, I would go to the store and try it out if you can beforehand. Keep in mind, MX Red's require ~45g of pressure to fully depress, whereas rubber dome switches are 50-60g at the bottom of the press. It's just a matter of finding what's right for you.

I'm currently typing on MX Blues, which I've found to be my favorite; with MX Browns as a second.

I recommend going to a large comp parts retailer, odds are they will have demo units out, I personally HATE reds, I would rather membrane over reds, but blues I can fully get behind. In the case of being unable to find a demo kit you can buy switch samplers for a few bucks.

Mechanical keys will definitely be louder than a membrane, also they will most likely be easier to click, but you will have to click harder. Overall I prefer mechanical, but that's just my opinion.

I don't personally like the reds, I think they are hard to type on, but easy to spam click with. Great for games.

Membrane over MX Reds. Linear switches are weird.

Try before you buy. The K70 also comes in Blue and Brown switches. Give those a try before you buy anything.
