Paul McCartney was paid nothing for his musical work in Destiny

Paul McCartney - the man, the legend, a Beatle - was paid nothing for his musical contribution to the Destiny soundtrack. In an interview from the Vulture with Bungie's community manager Eric Osbourne, he (Osbourne) stated that McCartney did not receive a check, but contributed purely for the creativity. This may be an attempt for him to reach out to a new audience - an audience that largely probably doesn't listen to his music.

There's nothing wrong with spreading your music around, especially when it's good! The Destiny soundtrack is amazing. It's just pretty awesome to me that such a popular person such as Paul McCartney would work on his song for Destiny without any pay from Bungie. While we're talking about the soundtrack, it's a shame that now former Bungie audio lead Marty O'Donnell was fired. His soundtracks are always great, and I'm really not sure how "Destiny 2's" soundtrack will sound...

Here is the exerpt from the Vulture interview:

Vulture: How on Earth did you convince [McCartney] to do music for a video game? How did you pitch this to him, and why do you think he did it? I'm guessing that there was an enormous check involved.

Osbourne: There was no check involved, big or otherwise. He's in it for the creativity. He got a wonderful opportunity to reach an audience that wouldn't typically be immersed in Paul McCartney. They might hear the name — of course he's everywhere, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics, obviously he's touring and recording nonstop — but he sees it as a way to reach a new audience that might not otherwise hear his music.

McCartney should use his creativity to tell Bungie about the PC so that they too can make an attempt to reach for a larger audience. Waiting since Halo CE.

You're acting like Bungie forced him to contribute to the Destiny OST. McCartney could have easily declined the offer, although I'm sure if he asked, Bungie would have paid him.

What actually happened.

McCartney: Lets make a bet, lets toss a coin you give me $500,000 right here right now if I win and if you win I do anything you want no questions asked.

Bungie Dev: Deal. I call tails.

*Bungie Dev pulls out coin that has tails on both sides.Flips coin.Tails.*

McCartney: well shit, best two out of three?

Bungie Dev: Sure, why not. If you lose again You owe me $500,000 plus the favor from the last bet.

Mccartney:  Okay but if I win then I owe you nothing, and you owe me $500,000.

Bungie Dev: Okay I call tails.

*flips coin,Tails again.*

Bungie Dev: *whispers* Sucker.
