Nvidia shield question

so im going to be building my pc in the near future but im not going to buy an Nvidia card.

 

 

the question is:

 

if i buy the cheapest card from Nvidia (probably bad gaming peformance) and also buy a higher grade card (sapphire r9 270x toxic) will the shield use both card to draw graphic power or only the card from Nvidia?
