Out of those two, the FX 4300.

well for only $5 diffrence i would go with the FX4300 no brainer here.

Simply because you are allready gonne use a dedicated gpu.

So the APU part of the A8 is becomming pointless.

Also the FX4300 will be faster, and it also has L3 cache.

Which the A8 is lacking at.

I'll go with the A8 since the iGPU can act as a backup, just in case the GPU breaks...

Let's just say their price difference is $5 and we are slapping it with a decent ~$200 GPU for single monitor 1080P gaming, which one would you choose for gaming and multi tasking?

AMD did a price drop. A 4300 is $104 while a 6300 is $109(US prices). A A8 6600K is $99.

Get the 6300.

This.

I'm surprised that there are only 2 votes for the A8 when they're almost the same (CPU-wise)...

Also, let's not turn this into a shitstorm... again...

We just stopped it ;) tbh I would get the a8 just for the benefit of igpu in case dgpu dies

its depends what setting you play at. for me a 7970 isn't quite enough a 1080p. its 80% of the way there but it can't quite keep 45fps average on max settings is some of my games. if i put the aa down or some setting to high instead of ultra its perfectly fine at 1080p.

6600k and 4300 are basically the same performance if you bump the 4300 clock speeds to match. http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/299/AMD_A8-Series_A8-6600K_vs_AMD_FX-Series_FX-4300.html  I read a review somewhere that said the L3 cache didn't help with gaming performance on the quad core FX (couldn't find the link).

FM2+ socket might last for another generation, until 20nm AMD CPU's start rolling out.

I would get the 6 core FX myself, although in fairness my iGPU has saved my butt a few times when a gpu bios flash failed in the past, and I needed to flash back.

It's possible to recover a gpu without a 2nd GPU or IGP. The post logo things are all going nuts but you should be able to press F8 and select the usb then there won't be any artifacting anymore in dos.
