Project Draugr - My Dream Rig.

Beaniie

So I've been waiting roughly 5 years for this moment; and it's finally come to fruition. I have an opportunity to build my own personal rig from scratch without any limits.

I plan to use the rig as not only my daily driver but a workstation also. It will be compiling 3D work as well as graphical elements within my given career field. (Also what good is a killer rig of you can't do a bit of gaming.)

So I've decided that a price tag will only take away from this experience. As it's my first private rig I've decided to go all out 'Balls to the wall.'

My budget is at around 6/7k (GBP or 10k USD). I maybe got a little to confident in my own capabilities with building a rig and decided to go in head first.

I have spent years swapping in and out parts on this list, so please and critique is well heard. My main goal with this rig is to be 4k ready.

(On a side note, Intels latest release of their new processors have provoked a slight product switch.

Originally I was going for a intel i7 extreme, with a ASUS RoG black edition Mobo. As well as 32g of hyper x DDR3 memory.

So in short what I'm asking is if I have missed anything I want to cover all bases with this machine, no stone left unturned sort of thing.

I'm aware of a few missing parts like fan controllers, fittings, rads and fans etc. but before I cool it I want to ensure it's all hunkie dory.

I will be posting a detailed log, just need to set the foundations of the build. I've already acquired a few basic parts.

Aren't you going to do some loop for the CPU and GPU?

Yeah, I plan too but like I said before cooling it is a whole other step. I've never water cooled a rig so I've done my best to isolate parts I know well via our good friend Linus.

Well the good news is, it appears judging by all your responses I've done ok with the part selection. 'But' even still I'll give this post a. Day or two to mature before I go busting out the wallet. ;P

Don't screw up the Dihydrogen-Monoxide cooling.

Don't worry, with a rig like this I'll be researching the cooling, 5x over to make sure I've got it perfect.

He's gonna do 3D work, so why not?

Basically i'm asking if titan black would be better in this kind of work instead of a more powerful card without DP(such as the upcoming 900 series).

Exactly. Wait for the new gen nVidia GPUs and get something from the 9xx. If they are not that good, I would go with 780Ti SLI either way.

For the rest of your build, you're really going overkill but if you feel like it'll actually make your life easier for your work then I guess it's the best you could get.

Ahh... A fellow X99 enthusiast, hopefully you'll be using all that power, I myself will be building mine for the heck of it. (because I can afford to and it's my birthday so... WINNING!)

My build log is HSS Revenir (The origin of the word Revenant, so similar name.) Though I made it before X99 launched and had a 4790k in the slot, will be updating at around the 15 of this month. I do look forward to seeing some beastly photos!

Do not  as I  do, and  not  as I say. Instead do as you may..

HSS Revenir: CPU=i7 5960x @4.5GHz Heatsink=Corsair H100i MOBO=ROG Rampage 5 RAM=Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB @3000MHz SSD=Corsair Neutron GTX 480GB GPU=R9 295x2 PSU=Corsair AX1500i OS=Windows 7 Ultimate
