Removing Thermal Paste

well i bough a bew cpu cooler and will isntalled today, and according to Linus i should use isoporporl ( i dont know how to type that :b) alchool, well ive been looking for it on like super markets and i think its bought in a pharmacy since i didnt find it on the supermarket, and my question is would ethyl alcohol like 96%+ work or should i really find the alchool linus recommend
this is my frist time doing any modification on my pc by myself so i really dont wanna screw anything up.

Any isopropyl alcohol will work.

Well I just use methylated spirits (no good lol?), I'm sure ethyl alcohol should be fine.

You can use turpentine substitute, methylated spirits, alcohol. I just use my mums nail varnish remover though, aslong as it get the CPU clean it'll do.

My dad uses this alcohol gel for work which is 85% ethanol, would this suffice?

I wonder what would happen if you used something like starter fluid or carburetor cleaner? I just use 99% rubbing alcohol.

The absolute best stuff is Arctic Silver Arcticlean .... But the only reason I have it is needing to fix overheating computers all the time~ 

 

As for stuff that people actually use : ~99% something something alcohol.

 

In short, the goal is to not leave impurities behind... So make sure you are using a lint free cloth and don't let a whole lot of dust get on it.

Yes, it should work fine. One of the main benefits of 99% Isopropyl is because purer alcohol will evaporate much quicker (pretty much instantly).

 

If you're using something less pure, just give it plenty of time to evaporate off before applying the thermal paste.

omg when i removed the stock amd cooler the cpu got pulled of the socket with it, my heart droped at that moment. 
one pin was a lil bit off and not letting the cpu sit properly in the socket, and when i saw it i just had a minor heart attack ( well not really, but you get my point)
so i went full yolo tried to fix the pin and works perfectly i consider myself lucky today
