Need help reformatting a USB

ok, so i got a 32 Gb usb as a gift last year, soon after i put a game on it then gave it to a cousin to install on his computer.

 

i didnt see him for a while after (about 9 months) and he had been using it as his own since we hadnt seen eachother to give it back.

 

so i get it from him and then get home and try to delete everything he had on it, but my computer says its write protected.

 

 

now ive tried everything: reformatting, using the cmd, going into regedit but non have worked.

 

ive followed tutorials on the internet but non work and i think it would be better to be able to talk back and forth with someone to help fix it.

edit: drive is malfunctioning, need to rma to get a new one.

nope, not working. it says " the memory card is write protected. please release the write protect switch.

i tried all the different settings

Open command prompt by searching "cmd" in windows and SHIFT CLICK the icon.

Type "diskpart" and hit enter.

Type "list disk" hit enter

Type "select disk #" (1 or 2, make sure you know which one it is. It says the size on next to it)

Type "clean all" hit enter

This flips every single bit to zero, completely wiping the disk and can take a while.

After this type "select disk #" hit enter

Type "create partition primary"

You should be good after this. If not, open windows explorer, right click the disk and hit format.

 

Make sure you know which disk to select in cmd

There's a switch on the side of the card, switch it to unlock

If you go into your Windows File Explorer, you should be able to right-click the USB drive that you wish to format.  In the sub-menu, there should be a Format option.

there isnt a switch on the usb stick.

this come up with: disk part has encountered an error: the request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error. see the system event log for more info.

You need to send it back to SanDisk. It is broken, and there is no way to remove write protection.

Yup, ya welcome sadly when a USB gets write protected there is no way to undo, and it needs to be replaced
