HTC announces the first 64bit (compatible) Android phone - The Desire 510

post-216-0-37254500-1409142401.jpg

The Desire 510 is a pretty standard midrange phone. 1GB of RAM, LTE support, 4.7" 854x480 screen, 5MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera etc.

It's nothing special until you get to the CPU. It's A Snapdragon 410 which means that it has four Cortex A53 cores running at 1.2GHz. What's so special about that is that it's ARMv8 compatible, and with that comes 64bit support.

It's important to note that it ships with Android 4.4, which means it won't be running 64bit Android when it launches.

With a mere 1GB of RAM I wouldn't bet on it actually getting a 64bit update. Kind of disappointing but it's still nice to see 64bit hardware being announced. With a bit of luck we will see high end 64bit smartphones being announced in the near future (Galaxy Note 3 maybe?).

3D graphic programs and games don't benefit so much from this thing yes it will make the new os faster but at what cost.As you said is a mid range phone but not sure if it's going to have the midrange price

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

So it's a 64 bit device that will never get to run 64 bit software?

Well said...

It probably will. It's not being made on some exotic manufacturing process and the chip is a low end/low cost one.

With a bit of luck it will launch at or slightly above the Moto G.

It's just a shame they didn't go for 2GB of RAM. At 1GB a 64bit update will probably just cause more problems than it's worth.

HTC usually updates a phone a couple of times before stopping. I'm confident it will see android L at least.

Tea, Metal, and poorly written code.
