So, they said they were a flagship killer. Well, looks like IUNI, a spin off of Gionee, has managed to slaughter their high end handset. In China, at least.

They've managed to release a very nice contender.

IUNI U3 features a 5.5” QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display made by Sharp. The 538 ppi screen is adorned by slim bezels and has takes up the impressive 77% of the device’s body.

The rest of the IUNI U3 specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC with 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, and 3GB of RAM. The device offers 32GB built-in memory.

On paper, the IUNI U3 appears to have a highly capable camera department. The main snapper is a 13MP unit with Sony sensor and optical image stabilization. The front-facing camera on the other hand is a 4MP UltraPixel solution, lifted straight from the HTC One (M7).

Connectivity options of the device include dual-SIM functionality, where one of the slots is dedicated to LTE networks. A 3,000mAh battery powers IUNI U3.

The handset boots skinned Android 4.4.4. It will be available in black, white, and light green when available.

So, they use a very nice Sharp display, have a better front facing camera, a better rear facing camera, and are on par with everything else.

Oh but wait, there's more! They also managed to fit all this into a MUCH smaller body.

THIS is what the OnePlus One should have been, form factor wise.

The only downside I really see to this device are the lack of changeable back covers, and the OS. Unfortunately it won't have CyanogenMod on it, and I doubt support for it in that regard will be fast, if available at all.

All of this will come in at a whopping...$325.

Can one actually see a difference in pixel density when comparing mobile 1440p and 1080p panels?

I tried looking at the LG G3 and at a distance, there is no difference. For sure when you are a couple inches away from the screen, there's a big difference if the 1080p display is stretched out to 5.5 or 5.7 inches.

I think it'd matter more on a 5.7" - 6" display.

I think I'll wait for the Nexus 6.

I'm waiting for the Moto X+1. Which may very well be the Nexus 6.

oh wow... But what's the size of the battery? I wouldn't imagine it'd last that long with the 801 like the LG G3

3000mah. Not great, but what can one do.

it's not. I'm saying that 1440p at 5.5 is pretty useless for the most part. You only see a difference up close.

a 1080p screen's pixel density at 5.5 inches isn't good enough when you get too close.

Ima have to see dis for myself next time I'm near a mobile store. I could tell the difference between the 720p screen on my Moto X when held next to 1080p phones of close-ish size (like those Droids), but I haven't seen a 1440p one yet.

'this is what the Oneplus One should have been, form factor wise'

Screen size preference is subjective!

I meant if you're having a screen that big, put it in a smaller body.

This is truly a 5.5" screen in a 5" phone body. Exactly what they were claiming.

The bezels on the sides are tiny and the top and bottom bezels are smaller than that of the M8 and S5. I have one, they've done a very good job of keeping the body small around the big screen, it's 0.3" bigger than the S5 and 0.5" bigger than the M8.

The phone's huge. You can't deny that. It's bigger than the Note 3, which has a 5.7" screen. That is by NO means a 5" phone form factor, which is what they promised leading up to its release.

This phone packs the same size screen in a body of the Z1, a 5" phone. Which is exactly what they were claiming during production, even teasing a picture of the OnePlus underneath one.

I never read that so it means nothing to me personally... I'm enjoying the phone just like the rest of the owners are, seems like a pointless thing to be bitter about when people will decide if they like the form factor. It's purely subjective.

having an unnecessary 1440p screen and a slightly smaller battery would give it worse battery life than the One though. The CPU is actually 2.3Ghz and Its got half the storage of the one.

I'm not sure why you think this "kills" the OPO.

And its not entirely relevant, the opo has existed for months, eventually phones will come out which are better, no need to make a thread about it like its some amazing event.

Technically the OnePlus isn't widely available yet. So, there's that.

100mah isn't a huge difference.

While you may see the 1440p screen as pointless, others don't. The screen to body ratio is also nice to see.

Sure it lacks 64gb, but it gains optical image stabilization. A trade I'd very willingly make. 32gb is still huge for a phone.

Also..I can post a thread about whatever I please ;) Don't like it? Don't read it.

I never read that so it means nothing to me personally... I'm enjoying the phone just like the rest of the owners are, seems like a pointless thing to be bitter about when people will decide if they like the form factor. It's purely subjective.

It's just disappointing to those of us who followed them from the beginning and believed what they were hyping. I would probably see it differently if I hadn't been promised something different.

I'd have just ignored it if I knew it was going to be a phone of that size.

That's one extremely impressive phone. I'd love to see it come stateside, or at least give me the ability to easily import it. I do want to know what LTE bands it's using. If I can't use LTE here in the US on that phone, then that's a no buy for me.
