Overclocking i7-4790K with stock cooler?

Hey there! As the title says i'm wondering if i can overclock my i7 4790K to 4.4GHz. I checked reviews such as http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/intel_devils_canyon_core_i7_4790k_review,5.html and he got a 66.25c with stock at 4.4GHz.

This might be a really short topic but i'd like to know :) I will be buying a better CPU cooler next month (hopefully) can anyone suggest a good CPU cooler aswell?

P.S Also read http://www.anandtech.com/show/8227/devils-canyon-review-intel-core-i7-4790k-and-i5-4690k/2 and it seems like i could get more out of my CPU as the stock voltage is already high :o

Thanks in advance

-Nad

EDIT: Oh and apparently i used OCCT with the stock 4GHz and it went over 96C and it stopped in 4 seconds lol.

Despite that article, anyone will tell you overclocking with a stock cooler is a big no no, and I agree with them.

I would only suggest overclock a little bit on the stock cooler, the stock cooler is okay for heavy load on stock speeds but oc speeds then no, a great cooler is a hyper 212 evo for best price to performance ratio.

I'm gonna check it out, i havent heard that the 4790K have a boost?

And also i'm new to overclocking and have been watching guides for the past few days ^.^

Oh well then i guess.. I'll just have to wait for my CPU cooler.

I'm actually looking forward to overclocking all the way to 4.8GHz sometime heh, saw someone on another forum a couple of days ago with the 212 cooler and got a 4.8GHZ with an AMD FX 8350.

I wouldn't Recommend it

I would recommend the H100i or the NH-D15 or The Hyper 212

I wouldn't use the stock cooler in the first place.

why do so many good cases only come in black and white

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't feel comfortable overclocking at all with the stock cooler. If you really want to ovrrclock, get a 212 evo. They are really good. And only around $30.

Do not overclock with the stock cooler.  The stock cooler is barely enough for the i7-4790k at stock!

The least expensive CPU Cooler that performs incredibly well is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.  That thing is amazing.

If you live in the US, you could opt for the Cooler Master Seidon 240M for $60, you won't find a better AIO Liquid Cooler for the price.

Stay away from the Corsair H100i, it has a really bad problem with mounting.  If you want Corsair, get the H105, it is the newer model and performs much better while not having mounting issues, it is thicker though so make sure your case can fit it.

Never overclock with stock. Like the others have mentioned, the EVO does a great job for a low price

All i7 CPUs have turbo boost. Stock cooler is meant to run with boost clocks so not really any OC going on. I can't get the article open but I highly doubt he's got those temps under real stress. More likely on standart benchmark like 3dmark.

As for comparing overclocking between AMD and Intel, just don't. Even between Intel chips you can't just check someone else settings and try those. Also, though 212 is really performing cooler, it depends on your chip if you get over the 3.7GHz mark /(which seems normal for refresh oc).

E: Ok, got articly open and guy who wrote it is idiot. He's got pics for "max" temps and OC but clock speed is for idle. Atleast he uses Aida64 but I wouldn't trust guy who doesn't know how to take screenshots during stress.
