Seems like a fair place to pick up the basics such as language constructs, data types and so on... As mentioned previously though, it's just a starting point. Generally you lick, scrape and scratch at the surface in places such as that.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

Codecademy is alright. But it only teaches you a few things about the language you want to learn. Nothing about file types, compilers, other stuff you might need, etc. Also sometimes, the instructions are very poorly worded and confusing at times. It's still usable of course but that's mainly due to the Q&A Glossary. Oh, and Codecademy is e-mail rape. Every time something is done, you get an e-mail.

I will agree its a good place to learn the basics but to start a business or to include skills like that on your resume you have to spend thousands of hours solving problems. Codecademy also doesn't help you go your own way or at least with me. It allowed me to learn the basics but you follow a very tight structure and it doesnt promote deviation form the course. If you do use codecademy be sure to do this as it will help to better your understanding of the content you are learning.

I recommend paid online services such as udemy or lynda.com if you wish to start a business professionally.

Hope this is helpful.

Do you think it's a good way to learn how to code?

Why?

its MEH i used it only to know enough of code to be able to read code and understand! but sometimes i find they give you tasks that they have no taught you how to do it!

Iv'e tried it and lets say It wasnt as expected...

  1. Some of the Instructions are Confusing
  2. Code has to be exact
  3. You just touch the surface of the language

I wouldn't recommend it... 3/10

I found it really difficult

Having 0 background in coding and not knowing a single thing there is very little explanation, and if you get the code wrong by one letter, it offers very little further help

Not great for a first timer

I am still trying to find something good that starts from square 0 and goes right through

I would get into the advanced areas of a language, before I started another. If you're there you should try Java.
