Hi there,

I have 32 GB of G.Skill 2133Mhz RAM and an ASUS PX79 Motherboard.

I don't know if the RAM is running at maximum speed so 2 questions:

1. Is this motherboard capable of running RAM at 2133MHz

2. Where ( i expect bios..) an how excactly can I change the speed?

Thanks for the help.

As far as I know you can only change the speed in the bios. UNLESS the mobo came with some software that lets you change stuff like that in the OS.

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

It's most likely XMP RAM so you can go into the bios, go to ram settings and select the correct XMP profile. Otherwise you can download speccy to see if it is already running on 2133MHz (Will be displayed as approx. 1066 MHz because DDR). If it isn't just enable the XMP profile.

In Asus X79 bioses  XMP is referred to as Ai Overclock Tuner, set this to XMP to run the memory at its rated speed and timings.

To check what speed your memory is running at, download CPU-Z and go into the 'memory' tab. Within the section 'timings' you will find dram frequency, which shows what speed your ram is running at. Dont get confused though, as it will show exactly half of the actual speed. Remember, DDR stands for double data ram, so just multiply the shown number times 2 and you get the actual memory clock speed. For example, if your memory should run at 2133, it will show something like 1066.

This is what shows up! Weird....

But sometimes i changes to 600Mhz, so its not running at 2133Mhz.

Is my motherboard even capable of running it at that speed?

Cheers

it will mean your are only running at 1333MHz default speeds

you will need to check in the BIOS for the settings

it will be in the menu where you can adjust the CPU speeds

But, can my motherboard run 2133Mhz? Where can I check that?

Yes it should be able to, but I think your cpu can bottle neck it
