This guy gets it, they is primarily out there to flagship their mobile line because up until now the 7970m was a 7870 desktop part, a little weak for 1080, while Tahiti was too hot this uses 60 watts less

Seriously though, AMD needs to get their shit together. It's just stupid to limit your new, "top of the range" card to 2GB GDDR5 instead of making actual improvements upon the last iteration of your card. 285 implies that it's more powerful than the 280 because basic maths dictates so. This being the case, why would you confuse your customers like that? This card was meant to be AMD's response to the 8xx series which will now ROFLSTOMP the current AMD GPU range.

 

FFS AMD, this wouldn't happen if you didn't spend your money making shitty low-end cards that nobody buys.

so its a 7950(r9-280) core on a 7870 (r9-270) board, cool! everyone loved the 7870TLE, this isnt cut down as much and will be cheaper.
i think amd is trolling nvidia with the 2gb 256 bit bus, how long before a 4gb version comes out?

And 285 would also imply weaker than 290, which a dual card would not have been.

it is more powerful, it just has less vram, but if that was such a problem noone would buy nvidia...

You edited the photo to look more like the 770 but i was pointing out a 770 from a decent vendor is starting at 300 vs the 285 @ 249.
