Urgent! system wont post

milesa43

I just got a new system and I cant get it to post, i have an msi z97 g-45 and an i5 4690k with an evga supernova 750b. I plugged evertying in and tried to power it on by shorting out the power switch. the powersupply fan started spinning and crackling and then it started to smoke and shut off. I tried again, it powered on for like 2 seconds and then turned off. The mobo lights turn on and the cpu fan starts spinning.

What do i do?

First, when your power supply is smoking it is obviously broken. Do not attempt to power it on, in fact, you should remove it from the system all together.

Next, replace it. That should solve your problem.

And finally, let us know how it went so we can help you further.

if i was you i would not turn it back on and RMA the PSU because for all you no it crackling it could destroy all of the other parts of the pc

Just saying that it might be possible that you destroyed your other components by connecting them to a broken power supply, but either way you should start by getting a new PSU.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.
