Hi, I just put together my first build and have had some trouble with the CPU temperatures. I have an i7 4790k, an Asus z97 pro wifi, and I'm using a NZXT Kraken x61.  Yesterday I ran prime 95 small FFT s and my temps were hitting 80C so i stopped, As soon as i had the chance I cleaned all of the thermal paste off the cooler and the cpu, and put on less then I had before and saw my temps go down t 60-65 under the same test. Then I turned off my computer and brought it home (I built it at work)and when i startedit up myprime 95 temps are back to 80C.  Any one know what's happening and what I can do to fix it.

Thanks

my idle temps were 29 this morning and now they are 34 if that helps

I'm assuming you haven't overclocked? How did you apply the thermal paste?

What is your pump and fan RPMs?

What thermal paste did you use?

Did you mount the backplate correctly so that everything is extremely tight?

this may seem stupid, but is there any temperature difference between the 2 places you mentioned? 2ºC of change in ambient temperatute may mean worst performance.

Also, is the case clearance ideal in both cases? I mean, in 1 place you had it on a table while on the other you have it in a furry carpet that block intakes, or is the back exhaust blocked by a wall or something like that?

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link
