So I need to put together a gaming rig for a friend. And the budget is 3k However it also needs at least 2 24"+ monitors and a copy of windows 7.

I would prefer building intel because they seem to be doing a lot better, And going with a nvidia GPU.

I would also like to see a decent sized boot drive SSD. Preferably 250Gb+.

Anyone want to post their recommended builds would be a great help. I will post mine later today.

This is what I would personally go for. There's loads of room left in the budget, but unless he's going for higher res, there's no need to get a better GPU. You could switch to an i7 for better performance in rendering, editing etc.

With that budget, it doesn't make sense to go with a low end cooler and 8GB RAM. 1TB hard drive is also very small.

few questions/concerns i have are: why windows 7, 8 is faster :P and why 2 monitors and not one better 1440p (i included 1440p) ALSO nvidia cards for what? are you going to be using gamestream or cuda? right now amd cards are so much better bang for the buck and unless youre going to be utilizing nvidia exclusive technology then go for the amd cards.

OS you can get for roughly 20 from G2A, and I do recommend Win8 over 7 but if your mate is keen on 7 bottom-line, then go for it.

I doesn't have to be nvidia. However for gaming he will likely only be using one screen. the other would be used for like watching a livestream of a youtube video.

He said he may want to stream himself. And using the Nvidia GPU with OBS for encoding is 100 times nicer than using a cpu. He will probably only be running at 1080p however slightly above wouldn't be bad either.

Also closed loop liquid cooling would be ok. However the guy that owns this will not know how to really maintain a PC all that well so it needs to be set up in such a way that it will be able to run without assistance or too much maintenance. Being quiet is always good but It doesn't need to be silent.

Well even now that a 290 provides more performance then a 780 you really can't beat 3 of them :P

Streaming isn't bad with AMD either. And the build above also has a Noctua U14S cooler which is a more simple heatsink based cooler which is more reliable then a CLC, yet performs just as good if not better then an H100.

I said 780, not 780 Ti. Also, Passmark is starting to show it's age.
