Omit GPU or Lower the CPU

Go to solution Solved by NeutronGTX,

Motherboard: Asus Z79I-Plus [WiFi 802.11 ac]

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K

GPU: Asus R9 280X [Omitting temporarily]

RAM: 2x8GB 2133Mhz DDR3

HDD: WesternDigital 1TB Green

Case: Bitfenix Prodigy

Budget: $1,250 preferably

try looking for a lower speed set of memory for cheaper, 2133mhz is unnecessary unless it was cheaper then other kits. Do not omit the GPU rather get a cheaper mobo such as this one

Looking at my build, I'd like to not spend the original budget I had thought would use.

So I'm not sure if I should Omit the GPU (At least until I can afford it) or downgrade the CPU.

The GPU I'm looking at is the Asus R9 280X (3GB GDDR5)

And the CPU I'm want is the Intel i5 4690K.

My intentions for the build is most likely eventual conversion to either a Steam Machine. This build is going to be making a "well rounded" PC where it can play some games on Steam and it can maybe do something like Autodesk Maya.

If you are looking to game with the PC, the GPU is a must. And you will be able to run autodesk maya off you GPU if the software has OpenGL support.

Yea, I'd obviously add the GPU later just to save on money. I'm sure I could also get a cheaper GPU for the mean time.

I know you are new to forum but in the future I would recommend you post topics like this one into the New Builds and Planning section of the forum, also adding a link to the post of your original build plan might help or maybe even editing your post in the old thread instead.

Get you some cheap 1600mhz memory. Get a graphics card now, and an SSD in the future. and is the a z97 motherboard? Without the GPU you won't be able to play very much besides browser games/solitare. The 4690k is worth it though. Possibly get 8 gigs of memory now, and buy 8 more in the future as well.
