According to SATA, AHCI or IDE?

Go to solution Solved by FizzyFantom,

Tried the solution and it worked thank you.

Can you give me a fix for Bios updating too?

No worries, I've had to do this in the past.

I assume you have downloaded the updated BIOS files from the Asus website here (under "Drivers & Tools" > "BIOS"):

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61M_LX_R20/HelpDesk_Download/

I think that you can use Asus AI Suite to flash BIOS updates, so you might want to try that.

You may also be able to use the EZ Flash utility in the BIOS, check out this post on the Asus forums:

Best of luck :)

I have Asus P8H61-M LX 2.0 Mobo.

The SATA config in BIOS is set to IDE. I've heard that AHCI is more popular so i changed to AHCI.

Ok, when Windows 7 Home Premium x64 logo appears, BUM crashes than reboot again. So it won't let me use the AHCI.

Do you know why and should i have AHCI or IDE? I have currently 2x HDDs each of 500GBs 3.0GB/s SATA.

So i should update BIOS to 2014? The BIOS version is currently 2012.

Thanks.

BTW i just found out that Bupdater is only for 32 bit Win7 :/ Tried running it on Compatibility mode but that didn' work :/ And also the MOBO gives an error "Failed to verification" the "H61MLXR2.CAP" to update :(

To be able to switch from IDE to AHCI you have to do a registry edit in Windows. I don't know what you need to edit but someone else might know.

You should be able to change Windows to work with AHCI as in this guide:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=313676

Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 support AHCI natively so this registry edit should let it use the AHCI drivers when booting instead of the IDE drivers it was originally installed with. If you are refering to something other than a single boot Windows PC (such as dual boot with GRUB) then this may not work alone. Try this and come back to us if you have any problems :)

If your system works fine, don't update BIOS, my opinion.

I agree.

If it's all working fine then I wouldn't really recommend updating your BIOS.

If you do want to update it then make sure to take precautions such as hooking it up to a UPS if you have one.
