Is Arctic Silver 5 safe to use on exposed dies?

Go to solution Solved by FizzyFantom,

I applied Antec Formula 7 to one of my GPUs and it still seems to be perfectly fine. Im fairly sure Anted F7 is conductive and it's really viscous, so you should probably be alright with Artic Silver so long as you're careful with it.

I found a video of someone applying Arctic Silver to a laptop:

I want to change the thermal paste on my MacBook because it's pretty old. I just bought some AS5 for my new build, but I heard it's electrically capacitive. Is this something to worry about when using it on the exposed CPU and GPU dies of my laptop?

Arctic Silver 5 is fine for both CPU or GPU. Some people recommend not to use it on GPU's, but it's fine as long as you don't slop it all over the PCB.

The only danger with AS5 is if you use too much of it.  The only other thing I can think of but it's not really an issue is that it takes much longer to cure than a lot of other stuff.

I'm a little worried about this happening. This is a picture of the stock TIM, with a ruler for scale:

(Sorry about the picture quality, it was insistent on being blurry :P)

That has to be the worst application of thermal paste i have ever seen.

All stock thermal paste looks like that. It's worse on gpus

But thanks man, this was actually pretty helpful :)

EDIT: oh god he's spreading it with his finger
