the 290 is a great upgrade and it will be much cheaper than the GTX780

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Get the 290, it will be a noticeable performance improvement. IMHO Nvidia's GPUs are overpriced at the moment.

Also luckily for you BF Hardline will support the Mantle API (apparently, BF4 did anyway) which will give you a better framerate on AMD GPU's.

You can actually get the Visiontek R9 290 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GSQ1C5C for under $350 new. It's an excellent bargain. Visiontek isn't one of the most popular brands but it's a pretty solid card and by far the best price to performance option you have.

Cooler Master HAF XB EVO, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, i7-4790K @ 4.5GHz, Corsair H100i, EVGA GTX 980Ti SC, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2X8GB 1866Mhz CL9, 2X Crucial M500 960GB, EVGA SuperNOVA 1050 GS, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q w/ nVidia 3D Vision 2

I would still go the 290, not only for the performance but it will be able to do freesync when that comes, where as the 7950 won't.
