satellite interenet for masses !

qwertywarrior

this is great news for people that live far away from the city

ive seen people on the forum that have 2mbps down with a 30GB data cap

anyways it will be initially offered along portions of the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf Coast; select counties in California, Arizona, and Minnesota; and across most of Alaska, Hawaii, and Florida.

for $70 per month (or $60 when bundled with phone service) you will get download speeds of up to 12 Mbps with a 150GB cap which isnt really enforced unless you abuse the hell out of it

i looking at you looney :P

I see this of special benefit to the guys in Alaska. For the other states, that will probably in the more remote areas. Which is also good.

Whose setting this up?

It's a poor attempt at patching up the horrible infrastructure that you guys have. It's 2014, you really need to pressure your government to get decent infrastructure deployed immediately. The absolute worst internet connection that you can get here is 10 Mbit down 1 up, and that it is in rural areas as well. That usually costs you 10€ a month...... Not to mention that datacaps are simply not a thing. They're complete bullshit and you should never be "okay" with them. The latency will also be pretty bad, which would make gaming on such a connection a nightmare. Seriously, this is not "good news" or a good thing, it's actually pretty bad.....

I think the only thing that will make us revolt is if they mess with our internets. Americans are lazy.

That, or if someone convinced a whole lot of you to revolt. Which wouldn't be too surprising in this day and age.

This sort of thing would be good for developing countries (if it was free) to help educate people about the rest of the world or maybe to seek aid.

Global internet coverage, even if slow, would probably change the world.

Americans are getting really boned when it comes to internet. There's no need for data caps, no way.
