I did not start binge watching it until this past week.  Some thoughts.

Many people said only the first half was any good.  WTF is wrong with you all?  The entire thing was good.

That is all.  Now to wait 6 years for the second season.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

the more I forget about it the better, so many cliffhangers makes a show so annoying, especially if they loose funding or like this where the season is taking so long to come out.

If that's the case you should read a song of ice and fire. Those books are so TIMELY, you won't have to wait at ALL!

Trust me, I would never lie to you all.

Well, it has a pretty interesting premise, but in the end it is a fairly generic, revenge driven anime. There are plenty of those, and people overhyped it just because of a few interesting cliffhangers and because of the brutality. It's a good anime, sure, but it's definitely not brilliant.

Magikarp?

By the way, I have a phobia of fish, so don't post any pictures of real, close-to-real, or any fish for that matter. Looking up and searching for this gif was enough to make me feel jumpy and scared.

I agree.

The new season will be out next summer at the earliest imo. There will be enough material then. At worst, next winter. It's too popular not to.

Well, it has a pretty interesting premise, but in the end it is a fairly generic, revenge driven anime. There are plenty of those, and people overhyped it just because of a few interesting cliffhangers and because of the brutality. It's a good anime, sure, but it's definitely not brilliant.

I disagree because of a few reasons.

  • There's more to an anime than story. This anime has beautiful art, a great soundtrack, and the premise, as you mentioned.
  • Regarding the premise, it's basically Zombies. Think about it. Things that look human, but aren't, that are insanely difficult to kill, and irrationally seek to consume humans at all costs. It's zombies, but in anime form, in the middle ages.

The only other zombie apocalypse anime that has even remotely gotten close to Dawn of the Dead style zombies is High School of the Dead and that was a train wreck for various obvious reasons (hint: The mangaka usually does hentai, as opposed to serious story driven manga).

This was a god-send for those who love anime and zombie shows. Which is a lot of people considering how many people love zombies (look at how many movies/series there are of them, i.e. Walking Dead, Warm Bodies, etc.)

  • It's uniquely hopeless. Somehow. Continuing the zombie analogy, this is something that all zombie shows have. Regardless of how well the survivors do, there's this impending feeling of "everyone else is still dead and nothing is going to change that". Same thing here. That makes every loss a lot more real. Like, normally when side characters die in a revenge driven anime, it's "whip-de-doo", but these characters are different imo. They are more fleshed out than normal characters. Most of them aren't tropes, and the ones that are are more than tropes (take Levi for example, then watch the scene where he hears the woman talking about her son who died). So losing them and knowing they can't be replaced by some other same-trope character means more.
Just saying. I feel there are reasons so many people love this anime. I think it's a combination of the great art/sound track, zombie-esque premise (which is something that's been missing in high quality in anime for a long long time), and the characters who either aren't tropes, or are, but are beyond their tropes in not being 2-dimensional.

the more I forget about it the better, so many cliffhangers makes a show so annoying, especially if they loose funding or like this where the season is taking so long to come out.

You must miss a lot of great shows then. Doubtful it's as popular, if not more popular, than One Piece in Japan. Hell no they aren't losing funding.

They are waiting on the manga to catch up. Sherlock is uber popular in England and only 3 episodes (90 minutes, basically movies) come out every 2-4 years. It still does well. Read above. They should have enough material for a new season (which will likely be the last season, if they do it right) by next summer at the latest imo.
