I couldn't find one of these, so I decided to make one. I'm just curious what a typical workload for your computer is. This is what I usually make my netbook suffer through, but it just plows on. The cached memory in GPU-G is what I have in my swap. Yes, I use swap on an SSD. Sue me. I have a gig of RAM and 2GB of swap. Not much of a choice... And my monitor is actually to the right of my netbook, but this way when I use the scrollbar on my netbook screen I don't drift on over to my monitor.

You have good taste in comics.

30% CPU, 1GB of RAM out of 2 (10 tabs of Firefox, no video on). Also a metric butt-ton of background processes.

1080p no problem. :D My netbook just gets choked. It will happily play 720p MP4's in VLC though (like a boss, 70% CPU usage most of the time).

EDIT: My Dell (in my sig) was playing 1080p YouTube videos in VLC with increased priority and 128MB of RAM. :D

general:

5-15 Chrome tabs consisting of Facebook, gmail, tweetdeck, youtube, and LTT at least. Plex Server, Skype, steam and origin, in the background, and maybe a copy of word

heavy:

The same as general, but with either a game, Premiere and after effects (and media encoder sometimes), or a virtual machine of some sort running.

Here's my server

Regular usage: Plex media server (not transcoding), samba, apache, mysql, 2 windows virtual machines, rtorrent, irssi

post-69936-0-59102400-1407728046.png

Heavy usage: same as above, but it's transcoding. All 4 cores are at 90% at that point. I have plex setup to "Make my CPU hurt"

I literally bought the cheapest case I could find, that had the most hard drive bays possible. Think I got it on sale for $40 or so. I've already converted one of the 5.25" bays to hold 3 drives (1 - 3.5" & 2 - 2.5")

Eh, Plex server, League client (idle), Steam (updates), SFTP server, usually a PuTTY/KiTTY SSH connection or two open, FileZilla, brackets, HexChat (Yay, IRC!), Chrome (5+ tabs always, occasionally gets to 4 windows @ ~10-15 tabs per. Usually Skype if I'm willing to put up with the crap from it. That's it -usually-.

what app/tweak/whatever?

Oh, you're still talking about f.lux...

lol yeah, I first found out about it through the jailbroken app store on my iPad. It made watching videos in the dark bearable, just found out they have a PC version last month.

It's my new obsession as of late, anything that can run it, has it installed.

I generally have chrome open with a few of my common stops, along with Steam, the LoL Client, skype, and Pinger.

Other then that I don't have much else running unless i need to be working on my game design docs, then I have MSWord open in the background.

My computers are tune to run 24/7 365 with an expectation of stability that you have of a server, all while still running even my most demanding of games off and on.

My games I play the most: LoL, DoTA2, Vindictus, WildStar, Tomb Raider 2013.
