Hello!

So I am looking to build a new machine that I plan on using for gaming, document writing, watching movies, essentially the whole shibang.

I have selected the following items:

iVektor STarship series Black midtower case

Enermax 240 AIO for CPU cooling

4790k Devil's canyon intel processor

g.skill sniper 16gb 1866 RAM

corsair professional HX 850W

Asus optical drive (i know, optical drive = ew but i do need one for blu-ray)

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 ATX motherboard

XFX R7870 DD Graphics card

I have an SSD and two additional hardrives for storage and OS so no need for newer storage. Although I might put in a second SSD for pagefile, cache, etc.

Essentially I want to know if this system would be OK working together. I already own the graphics card and it does not need to be upgraded for a year or so yet.

Thanks for any feedback you guys can give me!

Sorry if I missed a thread where these are published.

Hex

Yes it's good but with that GPU you can't play the most demanding games on ultra settings, you can play them on medium to high settings

Seems alright, but a 7870 is kinda week especially a DD cooler.

Error: 410

Yeah the card is kinda weak, but I am waiting for the price to drop some more on the R9 290x's. I do not really mind missing out on the ultra settings for a little while longer. After all Star Citizen does not release for a while yet right?

just get a r9 290 and you will be fine. I would just make the build without buying the 7870 and just use the integrated graphics until you can afford the gpu you want. I know that you wont be able to play much at high settings, but its better than wasting money on a gpu that you will only use temporarily.

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Due to a furthur look at the enermax 240... I have decided to go instead with the Corsair Hydro H100i.

I already own the 7870 bob, so no total loss in profits there. Also pricing for a 290 and 290x are practically the same so... why not i guess. Thanks anyway for the input.

On my current system I have 12 giggles of RAM. I do not want to downgrade to 8 giggles as I use around 9 when editing anyway. (yeah, really heavy duty editing)

I have no plans to overclock, especially a processor like the 4790k but I like to keep my options open.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

If you never plan on having a second video card just put a 500 watt psu in the computer if it is cheaper. 700 is enough for two. Anymore is overkill unless it cost the same or less to buy. Corsair, kingwin and seasonic make good stuff. There are normally sales once a month on different models if you watch pcpartpicker and you can get really  good ones for alot cheaper then normal.

Ram speed increases on intel platforms give marginal performance improvement so unless it cost nothing or close to nothing to go over the stock speed of 1600mhz, do not spend money there. Better places to get performance from.

If you are playing at 1080p, the 7870 should be fine just do not turn up the AA/AO/Post Processing Stuff, everything else you can set to ultra. Atleast I can on a i3 with a 750ti and still get very solid fps.

Upon further inspection I am kinda reconsidering the Enermax iVektor case...

After literally going through the entire list of computer cases on NCIX over a couple days, I find myself torn.

I am torn between the Corsair 500R case and the NZXT Phantom 530 case.

If I had to make a decision right this second then I would go with the phantom, but I want your opinions on this choice.

Phantom? Corsair? or stick with the iVektor?

Thanks!
