New Gaming PC , advice needed

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

Hello community , Im looking forward to build a computer out of these parts and i have a couple of questions:

1.Will this PC do great in 1080p gaming?

2.How much can i overclock my CPU with this cooler?

3.Is it worth to replace the noctua fans on the cooler with aftermarket Corsair AF140's?

If you have better ideas for the build, please write in!

GPU: MSI GTX 780 3GB

Case fans : Corsair AF140 Red LED (x3)

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips! That's actually really good. However some things I'd suggest:

Get a R9 290 instead. Cheaper and better down the road

Don't replace the Noctua fans on the cooler, they're Noctua and Noctua is a known brand for a reason.

You could get the U14S instead of the D14. It looks nicer (IMO), has more RAM clearance, and easier to clean/maintain. You'll only lose a degree or two in cooling performance

Also, you can get Windows 8.1 on G2A for 20 bucks or so.

Overall it's a really good PC that'll do great in games and be a good overclocker :)

that PSU is kinda overkill for a single GPU 600 watts is the highest you should go

get the 4690k and a Z97 board like the MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

  1. yes
  2. yes, luck of the draw, but 4GHz is reasonably common
  3. NO! NO! NO! NO!

You don't need an 860W psu for this build. A 650W would be more than sufficient.

Consider getting Windows 8.1. It will have a longer useful life.

Did you check to see if you could get an i5-4690K and Z97 GD45?

Most G.Skill memory are too tall to fit under the NH-D14 fan which overhangs memory. Consider getting the NH-U14S or NH-U12S.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Hey there,

Just one thing about the HDD. WD Blue is a great drive and would do a great job for you. However, if you are going for some heavy-duty gaming off the HDD, I would suggest you look at WD's Black series. They are designed specifically for gaming and offer great performance. Here's a link to check them out:

Hope this helps,
