CPU temp too high...

Go to solution Solved by mat45,

Okay guys everything is fixed. The temps are gone back to normal. Thanks again for your support and I apologize for my behavior...

Hey guys it's me again. I have a problem with my i7 4790K. When evaluating the performance with windows during the CPU performance test the temp go up to 100 °C and it its the rating. I'm using the stock cooler, I've changed the thermal paste and I've set the vcore voltage to 1.250V.

I really don't know what to do. Please help me...

1) Do NOT overclock using the stock heatsink.

2) Put your voltage back to stock settings.

3) Buy a new CPU cooler.

4) Now you can overclock safely.

Well you should consider buying a 212 evo, the stock cooler isn't that good, atleast not at that voltage, try to re apply the thermal paste tho

Emmh... Maybe consider killing yourself before you talk to me?

Pople on this forum though some of them had a brain, turns out, no.

I haven't overclocked anything. Also what are the CPU vcore stock voltage?

You said you set the voltage to 1.250v

First of all, you should not be touching any voltages unless you are overclocking. Adding voltage will make your CPU heat up a lot more.

Set it back to what it was before, usually 1.0v

Ok I've set the voltage down to 1.0v. Let's see what happens...

I suggest you read some overclocking guides before you start increasing the vcore. I dont have any idea why you would want to run 1.25v for stock clocks.

When I mounted the CPU those were the value set automatically by the mobo. I didn't do anything...

The way that you phrased your initial post implied that you changed your VCore.

Get a aftermarket cooler before overclocking, and when you do eventually overclock, make sure that you use manual voltage while validating (NOT adaptive).  Once you have a stable overclock, then you can set up adaptive.

The windows evaluation tool seems to be pulling a lot of voltage (hence higher temperatures) on devil's canyon cpus.  You're not the first person to have this problem.

Isopropyl alcohol is all you need for cleaning CPU's and motherboard components.  No, you don't need [insert cleaning solution here].  -Source: PhD Student, Chemistry

Sorry if I gave confusing answers I was really stressed a few moments ago. This is my first PC that I'm building. Anyway I'll explain everything:

When I mounted everything for the first time the vcore was automatically set to 1.423 volts.

Today when I got the new PSu I changed the vcore to 1.25 volts. The temps were lower but still way too high and it showed during running windows system evaluation.

I changed the vcore to 1.00 and that fixed the issue for me- The temps are gone back to normal...

That is an exceptionally high voltage for that cpu, especially on stock settings.  Where did you read the 1.423V from?  Bios?  CPU-Z? Something else?  What were you doing at the time where you took that reading?  Also, what is your motherboard?

I'm just concerned for your components because it shouldn't be supplying that much voltage at stock everything, and a PSU change shouldn't affect the voltage supplied (it will only affect the quality of the power coming in at most).
