CPU temp too high...

Go to solution Solved by mat45,

Okay guys everything is fixed. The temps are gone back to normal. Thanks again for your support and I apologize for my behavior...

That is an exceptionally high voltage for that cpu, especially on stock settings.  Where did you read the 1.423V from?  Bios?  CPU-Z? Something else?  What were you doing at the time where you took that reading?  Also, what is your motherboard?

I'm just concerned for your components because it shouldn't be supplying that much voltage at stock everything, and a PSU change shouldn't affect the voltage supplied (it will only affect the quality of the power coming in at most).

1. I found that out when I was in the bios

2. No I wasn't doing anything

3. It's a gigabyte z97x gaming 7 motherboard...

Personally I find that concerning.  I don't have experience with that motherboard so I can't provide a solid recommendation, but keep a close eye on your voltages.  The generally considered "safe" voltage range for that CPU for overclocking is about 1.0 - 1.3V (but only with a proper aftermarket heatsink).  Brief spikes to 1.4V probably won't damage anything, but if it consistently starts going above 1.3V, post another thread on this forum and we'll try to help you troubleshoot.  The high voltage (1.25V is very high for a stock cooler) was probably the cause of your 100°C temperatures.

Isopropyl alcohol is all you need for cleaning CPU's and motherboard components.  No, you don't need [insert cleaning solution here].  -Source: PhD Student, Chemistry

Yeah I'll keep an eye out on that and if that should happen I'll come here as soon as possible.

Thank you for your kind help and once again I apologize for my behavior earlier...

Yep...

I heard gigabyte z97 motherboards tend to kill your CPU by rising the voltage to 1.4 even 1.5v.(also confirmed by jayztwocents)

My guess, it's the motherboard and nothing else and since you manually set the voltage you have nothing to worry about from now on.Get a good cooler and start overclokcing that little beast :)

@mat45 you should probably mark this as solved or people will keep helpfully providing insight.  You seem to have a handle on it for now.
