Hey guys! So after a few months, I will be getting a laptop. I'd like to have my steam games on that laptop too. But the problem is, How do I migrate the games?

My PC has Two HDDs. One is the boot drive and another hard drive is for games. I want those games in that laptop. Is steam Family sharing the only way to do it?

Thanks in Advance :)

EDIT: I don't wanna re-download all of 'em games. It takes me A month to download a game, you say it so easily...Mind my internet speed..

Download (Max) : *cough* 100-120 kbps *Cough*

(Min) : *cough* 50-60 kbps *cough*

And, how do I do that?

ctrl+c of your steam folder, ctrl+v on the notebook's steam folder. Overwrite everything. Then when you tell steam to install your games it won't download anything and will just update the registry.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Here:

PC: All my steam games.

Laptop: I wanna get those steam games here.

Both are different PCs..Does that still work :P

you can paste files over a network. Just connect the computers via lan and make sure the hdds are network shared.

Install steam on the laptop then copy all the files from your desktops game hdd directory steam/steamapps/common. Then make sure the directory your games folder in settings is where your steamapps are and you're good to go!

Even with crappy internet, how long would that take? Speed is given above for download. Upload is worse. Just imagine it yourself..

Your local network will transfer data faster then your connection to the web. If you're hardwired, the only thing slowing it down would be your hdd's speed, which is still much faster than your internet..

For example...I can drag games from my PC onto my son's PC, locally. It is as fast as our HDD can go. Local traffic is not dependent on ISP bandwidth.

Air 540, MSI Z97 Gaming 7, 4770K, SLI EVGA 980Ti, 16GB Vengeance Pro 2133, HX1050, H105840 EVO 500, 850 Pro 512, WD Black 1TB, HyperX 3K 120, SMSNG u28e590d, K70 Blues, M65 RGB.          Son's PC: A10 7850k, MSI A88X gaming, MSI gaming R9 270X, Air 240, H55, 8GB Vengeance pro 2400, CX430, Asus VG278HE, K60 Reds, M65 RGB                                                                                       Daughter's PC: i5-4430, MSI z87 gaming AC, GTX970 gaming 4G, pink air 240, fury 1866 8gb, CX600, SMSNG un55HU8550, CMstorm greens, Deathadder 2013

Nooo, not through internet. I meant LOCAL network, as in there's a cable going from one pc to the other. Just paste the folder over and it will take about 8 seconds per gb.
