Windows 8.1 OEM doubt

ScareData5

Im going to buy a copy of windows 8.1 for a new bild and i was wondering what were the differences between the OEM and regular versions of windows 8.1

Is the installation any different?

can i use an external USB optical drive for the installation?

Yes you can use an external drive to install.

an OEM version is tied to your hardware so you "can't" use your same key on different hardware.

a retail version you can change the computer the key is tied to.

Be careful of fake OEM licenses that run out after a few months as many seller on ebay etc. do this because they know it cannot be found out until after the deadline

Retail version will allow to change motherboard then, correct?

Yes... well sort of, it will most likely have a whinge and make you call MS to re-activate.

I think that online activation would work normally, as long as you have removed Windows from the other machine.
