Because jets are fast and it makes the PC fast when there's a jet in it.

 

@Ryan Leech you need to get your hands on a thermal cam and record some footage of a gaming session.

That would be smexy as truck.

 Especially in terms of all the additional heat output, power consumption, and SLI bugs :P

Funny story, I actually melted a cheap USB cable that was touching the exhaust ports on my 465s

True story. Had to clean the air cooled R9 290's PCIe slot because it had melted the plastidip which then went into the slot and isolated it.. Took me 2 hours just yesterday :mellow:

I really wanna get a pair of the refrence R9 290s or 290xs. They just seem amazing. This gen 480s, I love it.

I would love to do a 3 way 480 sli build on a first gen i7 in a HAF 922 case i have lying around, but thats just a side thing, you guys are crazy to run that shiz as your main.

Mind you I want to upgrade my pc before i built that haha

It's all about the rush of running something so unpractical and unpredictable in your main rig, it just adds excitement to your life. Current gen single card setups are boring :P

The only thing stopping me from trying to run a 4k monitor off of my 580s is the lack of a display port. Otherwise I would attempt such a feat.

Didn't the GTX 590 come with a display port? But I thought the max res for Fermi was 2560x1600 on one monitor

What do you plan on cooking? Stuff needs to be frozen when you start :D and the power bill.. ouch.. up to 320W per 290X if you go with a maximum OC ;)
