I would like your opinion

Hello everyone,

I would like your opinion on these two builds that me and my brother (not a member of the forum) are considering.

My budget is around £1500 - £1800 whilst my brothers is around £1500 max. Both are linked below to PC PartPicker.

My System: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Alexp10v2/saved/k8yqqs

My Brothers System: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Alexp10v2/saved/GgkgXL

Now for opinions, not just about the systems but the monitors which is what this topic is mainly about. (I know about the Displays section of the forum, but I also wanted your options on the rigs in question so I put this topic here). I currently use a 16:10 1680x1050 22" TV. In my parts list I have put two monitors, a BenQ 27" 1080p monitor and a Dell 24" 1200p monitor. I really like my large TV (compared to my families 19" monitor) and was wandering what sort of difference would be seen between the two monitors in question? Is it worth going for a larger screen but a lower resolution or a smaller screen with a slightly larger resolution? I know PPI would be better on the Dell 24" compared to the BenQ, but at close range (normal desk size) Does the extra 3 inches make a difference (insert immature joke here....). That's my predicament. Which of the two monitors would be more suitable?

As for what the monitor will be used for, it will be used for gaming, but I would like high colour reproduction. When I get the time, i might learn some coding or web development.

(Open for suggestions for different ones, but must be at least 1080p minimum and less expensive than £200)

Thanks for your help.

Just a question why does your build have 2 liquid CPU coolers?

Edit: As for your build. If you restrict yourself to gaming there is no real need for an I7 but your budget allows it :D. As for the memory, looks quite good to me. When it comes to the graphics card though you might want to consider either getting a 780 Ti if you want to stay single GPU or 2 R9 290's if you don't mind going CF/SLi. Rest of the build looks solid to me.

As for your brothers build. Again with that budget I would most definitely go for an I5-4690k/I7-4790K as opposed to an FX. Intel is preferable to AMD if you have the budget IMO. Again here though If he can squeeze the budget and wants to stay single graphics card I would again suggest a 780 Ti.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

The H55 is for the NZXT G10 bracket to liquid cool the GPU.

likely for the nzxt g10

side not op id say your better off switch to 290(x)'s on both builds to save some money

Invest in better monitors. You should be purchasing 1440p or high refresh rate monitors at this point, you can buy better components later.

I was looking at the BenQ BL2710PT but I could't justify the extra money for one, as much as I want a 2560x1440 monitor

For my brother that would be an excellent suggestion as he mainly plays fps games, but for me, i think I'll stick with the 780's as I love my Batman games with the accelerated PhysX (Tried playing City on my Xbox the other day, Couldn't get past the first fight with Two-Face)

Thanks for the suggestions on the builds.

My brother insists on going with the 8350 even though I told him in most cases an i5 is equivalent (trying to not start That argument over again)

EDIT: "I'm going for the i7 because I know there's not much performance gain between an i5 or i7 for just gaming, but I can afford it and would like a nice processor for a change, been planning this upgrade for about a year now)"

Personally I would like to stay single card for the time being and probably pick up another 780 later on, I was considering the Ti but trying to keep to the price point the best I can. (already went over my initial budget of £1250, go figure :P)

As for my brother I was thinking of getting a R9 290 as he is going higher than 1920x1080 and thought the 4GB VRAM would help, but he wants the same card as me, because he doesn't want to think i have more performance than him, graphically wise.
