I am building a pc for my little brother so he can play minecraft and skyrim etc. But i really don't want to spend a lot of money on it. This is what I've got so far: core 2 duo, 1gb ram, 350 watt psu, 180gb hdd and a CD/DVD reader.

(And a asus motherboard with lga775). Now the only thing left is a half decent videocard that doesn't require additional power connectors, but is well capable of playing skyrim on medium (~30fps). Do you guys (and possibly gals) have a suggestion?

Ps. I will get everything second hand so options may be limited.

and your budget for the card? Gtx 750 ti or 750 seems like your best option.

Edit: and I suggest 4gb ram, even my 8 years old desktop has 1.5gb, 1gb wont get you anything. With 750ti I think you can reach high 1080p no problem at Skyrim.

-Desktop: Asrock H81M-HDS R2.0, Pentium G3258 4.2 ghz OC, Palit GTX 750 ti StormX, Kingston HyperX Fury 1600 4gb, Seagate Baracuda
-Laptop: MSI GE620DX, i72670QM 2.2 Ghz, 8GB 1333mhz Ram, GT555M 2GB DDR3.
-Gaming peripherals: Razer Deathadder 2013, Superlux HD 681 Evo Razer Goliathus Control Medium sizeCm Storm Quickfire TK white edition.

He wants to run Skyrim on a socket 775 dual core ....

Well here are some really good examples of it running well on low end systems but you are definitely going to need to add some ram and of course look at various decent mid range vid cards.

.. but there are examples of the game looking good and running pretty nice on some dual cores with really old video cards.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Yeah, nope. Core 2 duo, yeah. 1 GB ram. NO. 4 GB Ram + Core 2 duo overclocked + r7 260x.

The 260x requires external power

@OP that build is sad, very sad. I really hope you didn't spend much on those parts as a G1610 and a motherboard is about $80 and is faster than most C2D (as seen here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487.html) 1GB of RAM isn't enough though my secondary rig sqeezes by on 2GB so I would consider that the absolute bare minimum with 4GB being the more comfortable minimum. As for the GPU a 750 or 750 Ti is your best bet as they are good cards for the price and do not require external power depending on the model you get.

Considering that you already have storage and a PSU this would be good enough to do what you want.

No wait, 1gb ram is all I have right now, I'll be upgrading it to 4gb. But just to proof you wrong, three years ago, my old pc (now dead) ran Skyrim without videocard, 512mb and even a Core 2 duo 4300 Instead of the e6300 I have laying around right now.

Edit: Oh and os is XP (YES old/bad/no support, but ONLY FOR MINECRAFT MP, thus no downloading)
