Windows transfer

Go to solution Solved by Benjio,

Will try this now TY haven't had to do this is for ever

You should also be able to do a startup repair from a USB if you want to try that before installing Windows. It will still probably be best to do a fresh install of Windows, that's pretty much always the case though. If you do decide to do a full re-install, you will lose all of your data on the hard drive, so make sure you backup anything you need to an external harddrive/usb.

So this is a bit of a noob question but i here i go

So after getting a SSD I now need to transfer Windows

and programs on to it.

I tried using Clonezilla but got the missing configuration error

ps i can not just reinstall windows

help>?

As long as you have the activation key you can just download it again and install it off a USB...

I guess you only clone the window partition and not your active system/reserved partition too?

Put in the old HDD and make a new image. You could use Windows Easy Transfer for your profile and such. I would recommend to do a fresh install of Windows and install all the programs. With Windows Easy Transfer you also copy over the preferences for programs as well.
