Smaller Taskbar in Windows 8.1?

I'm already using small buttons for the taskbar but is there a way to reduce the height even further?

I like having the taskbar there because it takes too long to pop back up if it's hidden.  Is there any way of choosing its height in pixels though?

You might be right, I was able to change the size of desktop icons, border widths, spacing a some other stuff through the registry but can't find anything yet to change the height of the taskbar.
