Hi all, I just rebuilt a laptop for a family member, putting windows 7 on it.

Anyway after rebuilding it the wireless internet stopped working. I've looked through the network and sharing options and found nothing, it doesn't seem to find any networks to connect to which seems very strange. Assuming it was simply driver issues I connected an Ethernet cable to try to make it work that way but that refused to find a connection as well. Looking on other forums i found people having similar issues and fixing it by pressing the wireless button at various points during start up. It didn't work. Lastly i looked at the device manager and the Ethernet and wireless card options are not being recognized, i'm really not sure how to fix this. I can't think of anything else other than a hardware issue with the wireless switch but if anyone has any advice before i take it for a repair i'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Eleyte

Go into Bios first and check whether the LAN controller is enabled.

If it is enabled make sure you have the correct drivers you are trying to install.

Yeah i have a main rig so i'll try that, it always amuses me though when windows suggests searching the internet for a solution to a broken internet. Anyway it'll be morning once i can get to my PC (i'm at the family members house) so i was just checking i'm not an idiot missing something simple that i can do tonight.

Thanks

So i found an old laptop (even older this time) and downloaded the latest driver and it still doesn't seem to have worked, rebooted and there was no change at all. After further googling i found that the wireless button is showing what has been coined the yellow light of death and i'm yet to find a way to fix it

By rebuild, are you talking, just data wipe, and fresh OS install, or did you muck about internally?
