Just get wd blue. Should be cheaper and just as good.

Purple is really meant for 24/7 video applications.

I just want one for the desktop, in my laptop I have a seperate hdd for older games and recordings but its impossible to record more than 45fps, because the drive (toshiba 2,5" 5400rpm 1TB)is already at its max speed, and I dont want this problem with the desktop pc.

If you can pick up the Purples for a good price then they are a good choice. As they are designed for surveillance you get quite consistent write speeds across the drive.

If you can pick them up for a good price then its worth it. I paid £65 a piece for my 3TB ones in my NAS.

how many rpm does he purple have?

Since they are using the Intellipower technology, the RPM will vary depending on the usage. The maximum is 5400 RPM (just like the WD Red, and WD Green).

I don't know, the WD Purple's seems to directly replace the WD Re drives....

WD Blue? I'd get a 7200RPM drive instead of a 5400RPM.

5400RPM is plenty for writing to the drive....but then you'll probably want to do some editing and such. At that stage, you'd want a faster 7200RPM drive.
